This year the National Volunteer Week theme is Give a little. Change a lot.

This year the theme for National Volunteer Week 21st -27th May is Give a little. Change a lot. The theme this year represents the estimated 6 million Australians who volunteer their time making a profound impact in their communities and on society by giving a little time.

I have experienced firsthand the impact that volunteering has on society through the charity Helping Hand Helping Hearts Foundation which my sister Sue and l set up in memory of my brother in law Nick Cracknell. Since establishing the charity in 2009 we have achieved numerous remarkable results and this could not be done without the tireless support of our amazing family, friends and supporters (all of whom are volunteers), it takes a community to achieve these results! And I think all of our volunteers would agree the reward of being involved in something that has a positive impact on the community greatly outweighs the time and effort put in.

Each person that has helped us on our journey, no matter how big or small can put their hand on their hearts knowing that amongst several projects supporting underprivileged communities in Vietnam and Australia that they have helped to save 124 children’s lives.  This has been done by assisting us to raise much needed funds for lifesaving heart operations, which we do in partnership with Heartbeat Vietnam and furthermore we have been able to provide two of these children with scholarships to further their education. Volunteering proves time and time again that as a community we can have a positive impact on those less fortunate than ourselves. If you don’t already volunteer I can’t tell you what you are missing out on in terms of personal happiness and satisfaction.

Sometimes to Give a little is all it takes to make a difference.

You don’t have to have a lot of time, it’s the impact that the precious time you do have that adds value to what you do as a volunteer that ensures you too can Change a lot ! So, to all the Helping Hand Helping Hearts volunteers on behalf of Sue and I and all the families and children we have supported we say a big heart felt THANK YOU!  Without you we could not have achieved. #NVW2018
